SS Metrology Solutions has completed multiple robot rail alignment projects across North America, supporting a wide range of robotic and automated systems in manufacturing and inspection environments. These projects span new installations, system relocations, and performance optimization efforts, where alignment accuracy is critical to robot repeatability and long-term reliability.
This representative project was executed using the Hexagon Leica ATS600, selected for its ability to deliver high-accuracy measurements over long distances and across large working envelopes. Unlike traditional alignment tools, the ATS600 enables direct scanning of the robot rail without the use of physical targets, allowing fast, continuous measurement of rail geometry.
Why Laser Trackers Are Ideal for Robot Rail Alignment
Laser trackers provide several advantages over conventional alignment methods:
Large-volume accuracy: Sub-millimeter precision maintained over 10–20+ meters
Direct rail scanning: Continuous measurement of straightness, level, and twist without targets
Real-time feedback: Immediate visibility of adjustments during shimming or mechanical correction
Reduced setup time: Faster alignment with fewer iterations compared to optical or mechanical methods
Digital traceability: Full measurement data and reporting for verification and quality control
By using laser trackers for robot rail alignment, SS Metrology Solutions helps customers achieve smoother robot motion, reduced mechanical wear, shorter commissioning timelines, and more stable long-term system performance.
SS Metrology Solutions provides laser-tracking alignment and large-volume measurement services for robotic and automated systems across North America.
